Will a video doorbell fit on narrow door trim?
Only if the doorbell is narrower than the trim. Standard brick mould is 2 in wide, so a doorbell of 1.9 in or less fits and a 2.1 in or wider one hangs over the edge. On 1 1/2 in mould, only the SkyBell Trim fits. A wedge or corner kit does not change that.
The fix people suggest, and why it does not work#
Search this question and the answers sit on brand forums, one maker at a time. The common reply is to buy the wedge or corner kit, and it sounds right, since the kit changes how the doorbell meets the wall.
It does not change the width. Any wedge goes between the doorbell and the trim, so the trim still has to hold the wedge's base. Ring is the one maker read here that prints a wedge's size, and its Wedge Kit for the 1st generation Video Doorbell measures 5 x 2.5 x 1 in. That wedge is half an inch wider than standard brick mould on its own, before a doorbell goes on it.
Each maker says what its kit is for, and none says narrow trim:
- Ring Wedge Kit (1st gen). "Mount your Video Doorbell flat against angled siding, or if your door is elevated above your yard, mount your Video Doorbell at an angle." It tilts the doorbell 5°, 10° or 15° from the wall.
- Ring Corner Kit (Wired Doorbell 2nd Gen and Plus 2nd Gen). One stackable 20° wedge, to "angle your ... doorbell towards your walkway". The Wired Doorbell Pro ships with a Corner Kit in the box.
- Blink Video Doorbell (2nd Gen). A wedge mount for "5º vertical (up or down)" and a corner mount for "25º horizontal (left or right)".
- Google Nest, Wyze and Aqara. Each includes one wedge: 20° for both Nest doorbells, 30° for the Wyze Video Doorbell v2 and 20° for the Aqara G4. Aqara calls its wedge a bracket "for optimal angle adjustment on various door frames", which is about angle, not width.
So the kit changes where the camera points and adds its own thickness to how far the doorbell stands out. If the doorbell is too wide for the trim without a kit, it is too wide with one.
What brick mould is, and how wide it runs#
Brick mould (also spelled brickmould or brick molding) is the thick exterior trim around a door. Metrie, a trim maker, describes it as "mainly used as exterior casing around doors". It is the strip of wood, PVC or composite between the door frame and your siding or brick.
Two numbers describe a piece of brick mould, and trim makers write the thickness first and the width second:
- Standard: 2 in wide. Reeb, a door maker, states that "Standard Brickmould is 2" in width". Extrutech's WM180-B profile, the common shape, is listed as "2" Wide by 1 1/4" High", so the familiar label "1 1/4 x 2" means 1 1/4 in thick and 2 in wide.
- Narrow: 1 1/2 in wide. Metrie sells brick mould at 1 1/4 x 1 1/2 in (fir, item 1626282) and 1 3/16 x 1 1/2 in (hemlock, item 1610792). That is the narrower face you will meet on some doors, and it changes the answer.
That clears up one mix-up: the 1 1/4 in figure often quoted for brick mould is its thickness, not its width. No brick mould narrower than 1 1/2 in turned up in the trim listings read for this page.
In this article, a doorbell fits when its width is no more than the trim's width, so the whole back of the doorbell sits on the trim. If the doorbell is wider, part of it hangs past the edge.
Doorbell width, height and depth, brand by brand#
These are each maker's published sizes, read in November 2026, narrowest first. Width is the measure across the face, which is the one that has to fit the trim, and depth is how far the doorbell stands out from the wall, without a wedge.
| Doorbell | Width | Height | Depth | Angle piece in the box | On 2 in mould | On 1 1/2 in mould |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

In the table, "Not stated" means the page read gives no figure, not that the part is missing. Aqara's sizes are given in millimeters and converted here. Google's store lists the wired 3rd gen as "Length: 1.7 in" and "Width: 1.1 in". The 1.7 in is the measure across the face, so this table calls it width. SkyBell's listing gives the Trim's width only, along with 2.8 in for the round SkyBell. It says the Trim was made because "enough customers complained about the width of the video doorbell not quite fitting their narrow existing space".
The table splits cleanly. Eight doorbells are 1.9 in or narrower and fit standard mould, and the next size up is eufy's S220 at 2.1 in, with nothing read in between. So for 2 in trim, the working rule is 1.9 in or less.
Worked through: a Ring Battery Doorbell on 2 in trim#
Here is one case, walked through the published figures. Suppose your front door has standard brick mould, 2 in wide, and you like the Ring Battery Doorbell, which Ring lists at 2.44 in wide.
- Straight on. The doorbell is 0.44 in wider than the trim, so if it is centered, it hangs about 0.22 in past each edge.
- With a wedge. Ring's only published wedge size is 2.5 in wide, which is itself wider than the 2 in trim. A wedge tilts the doorbell and adds depth, and the overhang stays.
- A narrower Ring instead. The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is 1.8 in wide and leaves 0.2 in of trim to spare. The Wired Doorbell Pro is 1.9 in and leaves 0.1 in.
Now suppose the trim is the narrow 1 1/2 in kind. The Wired Doorbell Pro is then 0.4 in too wide, and every other doorbell in the table but one is too wide as well. The SkyBell Trim, at 1.44 in, leaves 0.06 in to spare, so on that door the choice is down to one model, or a different spot on the wall.
If your doorbell is too wide for the trim#
The table gives three ways out.
Pick a narrower doorbell. For 2 in trim, the eight models at 1.9 in or less all fit. Check the power side too: wired doorbells have their own volts and VA needs, set out brand by brand in video doorbell transformer requirements.
Move it off the trim. The wall beside the trim is often the roomier surface, and Ring's own Wedge Kit is sold to mount a doorbell "flat against angled siding", so siding is a mounting surface Ring plans for. A battery doorbell needs no wires there: Google's Nest Doorbell (battery), for example, runs on its built-in battery or on existing doorbell wires. A wired doorbell moved off the trim needs its wires moved too, and that is wiring work, not a mounting change.
Use the narrow model. On 1 1/2 in trim, the SkyBell Trim is the one doorbell read here that fits.
What the table does not offer is a kit that fixes width, because every wedge and corner piece described above is sold to change the angle.
Why "slim" doorbells are hard to compare#
eufy's own article on slim doorbells says "a slim video doorbell is about 1 to 1.5 inches wide", yet its two models in the same article are 1.9 in (C210) and 2.1 in (S220). Only one doorbell in the table above, the SkyBell Trim, is under 1.5 in, so "slim" on a box is not a width, and the number on the spec sheet is the one to check.
The order of figures also changes from page to page. Ring lists the Wired as "3.98in x 1.8in x 0.88in", height first. Blink labels its sizes "W", "L" and "D". Google labels the face width of its wired doorbell as length. When a page gives three bare numbers, the width is the middle one: smaller than the height, larger than the depth.
Measure before you buy#
Measure the flat face of your trim
Use a tape measure across the front of the trim beside the door, where the doorbell will go. If the trim has a shaped or rounded edge, measure only the flat part, since that is what the doorbell's back sits on.
Find the doorbell's width
Use the table above, or the maker's spec page. Take the middle of the three numbers if the page does not label them.
Compare the two
If the doorbell is no wider than the flat face, it fits. If it is wider, a wedge will not fix it. Pick a narrower model or move off the trim.
Allow for a wedge's depth
A wedge adds its own thickness to the doorbell's depth. Ring's 1st gen wedge is 1 in thick, so plan for the doorbell to stand that much further out.
Choosing a doorbell around narrow trim#
Width is the first filter, and it is a hard one. After that the usual questions apply, and cameras and doorbells covers them: recording, subscriptions and which platform shows the video. Matter cameras explains why no video doorbell has certified for Matter yet.
- 2 in trim. Any of the eight doorbells at 1.9 in or less fits by width, and for a wired one you then match your transformer.
- 2 in trim, battery power. Nest Doorbell (battery) and Blink fit, while Ring's Battery Doorbell and Battery Doorbell 2K do not.
- 1 1/2 in trim. SkyBell Trim, or a spot on the wall beside the trim.
- Wide models you already own. Mount it on the siding rather than the trim, and move the wires if it is a wired model.
A doorbell is a Wi-Fi camera, and Wi-Fi for smart homes and the network a smart home wants cover the network side. A storm door adds its own limits at the same doorway, and will a smart lock fit with a storm door covers the clearance it needs and why eufy says it may block a camera lock's view. What a doorbell does when the internet drops is in what still works in an internet outage, and who sees the footage is in smart home privacy. If you rent, read a smart home for renters before drilling the trim, and add the trim width to the pre-purchase checklist.
Where this page stops#
This page compares published widths against the full width of the trim. If your trim has a shaped edge, its flat part is narrower than 2 in or 1 1/2 in, and a doorbell with 0.1 in to spare on paper may not sit flat, so measure your own trim's flat face. The doorbells read are the ones in the table, from maker pages and two retailer listings (Aqara via Ameridroid, SkyBell via Alarm Grid), as of November 2026. The Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen), Arlo's doorbells and the original Ring Video Doorbell were not read, so this page gives no figure for them. Wedge sizes beyond Ring's 1st gen kit were not published on the pages read. Moving a wired doorbell off the trim means moving low-voltage wires, which this page does not cover. If the transformer or chime side is in doubt, start with video doorbell transformer requirements.
Will a video doorbell fit on narrow door trim?
Only if it is no wider than the trim. Standard brick mould is 2 in wide, so doorbells of 1.9 in or less fit: Nest wired (3rd gen), Wyze v2, Ring Wired, Nest battery, Blink 2nd Gen, Ring Wired Pro, eufy C210 and the SkyBell Trim. On 1 1/2 in trim, only the SkyBell Trim at 1.44 in fits.
My video doorbell is too wide for the door frame. Will a wedge kit help?
No, because a wedge tilts the doorbell and adds depth, but it does not make it narrower. Ring's 1st gen Wedge Kit is 2.5 in wide on its own, wider than standard 2 in trim. Every wedge and corner kit read for this page is sold to change the viewing angle.
What is the narrowest video doorbell?
Of the doorbells read here, the Honeywell SkyBell Trim, at 1.44 in wide. Next are the Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen) and the Wyze Video Doorbell v2, both 1.7 in.
How wide is brick mould?
Standard brick mould is 2 in wide, per Reeb and Extrutech's WM180-B profile. Metrie also sells 1 1/2 in wide brick mould. Labels like "1 1/4 x 2" give the thickness first and the width second.
How wide is the Ring Battery Doorbell?
Ring lists the Battery Doorbell at 2.44 in wide and the Battery Doorbell 2K at 2.11 in. Both are wider than standard 2 in trim, while the Ring Video Doorbell Wired (1.8 in) and Wired Doorbell Pro (1.9 in) fit it.
Can I mount a video doorbell on the siding instead of the trim?
Yes, if your siding has room, and Ring sells its 1st gen Wedge Kit to mount a doorbell "flat against angled siding". A battery doorbell needs no wires there, but a wired one does, so its wires have to reach the new spot.
